I love books! When I was a child I would read every night at bedtime. That continues to this day. However, I no longer have to hide under the sheets with a flashlight after lights out to get my fill of a good book!
As I child I wanted to own a bank and a bookstore. I think it's time to make my childhood dreams come true!
I am an independent consultant with Partylite Candles & Gifts. It is tremendous fun, and I love it. If you like candles, or just want to create a welcoming home to come back to each day, then we need to talk! It truly is one of the best life-changing decisions I have ever made.
I also work in the financial field, and currently as a licensed tax preparer. Did you know Oregon is the only state in the country that requires tax preparers to take a class, and pass an exam to be licensed? True! It's a fun job that will serve me well in the future. I decided on this field because it fits my brain well, it offers me great part time employment options any time I need it (including in my golden years, though those are a ways away!) and it provides me with some extra know-how for my business ventures. All good stuff! Plus right now as I build my Partylite business, the "outside job" as I like to call it is paying the bills, and will soon be contributing to the basis of the bookstore funding.
My Grandma Millie passed away in March of 2010. She was 92, almost 93. And until a few months before her passing she was self sufficient, a real spitfire of a woman, and a voracious reader. She would read at least 1 book per day, if not more. She and I would swap books, peruse the used book stores in her town, and swap tales of the books we had recently read. Those conversations usually consisted of her saying "I don't like those books with too much sex in them that you read," and me firing back "I don't think Kate Wilhelm is writing dirty books Grandma!" The phrase "they held hands and walked off into the sunset" is too much sex for my grandma. You get the idea.
When she died I inherited bookcases full of books. I think as last count it was about 14 boxes. Add that to my own collection of books and I decided it was time to get down to business. As I decide the best way to move forward, I am considering all options. I know there is competition, so much of it, but this is where my heart is and I think it's worth a shot.
I will be using this blog to document my research, my decisions, my progress, as a sounding board, and my idea vault. I would love to hear from my fellow readers too. Your thoughts, comments, suggestions. If you live in the Portland Metro area let me know what you are looking for in a book store! This won't be just any old used book store. I am looking for pizazz!
Can't wait!
